The team approached the Whitehouse Employers Association in a bid to get sponsorship for a number of bicycles and although many companies expressed an interest in helping, Ipswich firm, West Engineering, offered a £250 donation to fund one bike.

Darren Thomas, from Cycle Revolution, offered the best deal, providing one worth £350 for £250.

The bike has already been put to good use as it is used by officers from the team to get around the housing estates and industrial estate at night.

Sgt Roger Salmon, from the safer neighbourhood team, said: “Safer Neighbourhood Teams are all about getting out into the communities we serve. This bike will enable my team to do this in a more visible and responsive way and we are very grateful to West Engineering for their generosity.”

Dale Smith, the managing director of West Engineering, said: “The public like to see their local police out and about. The bike will help the police community support officers get around further and a little faster. We are delighted to support local police in this way.”
