BOOZED-up motorist Richard Trueman is today awaiting his fate after driving while nearly four times the drink drive limit.

Trueman was on his way to Sizewell B and had driven from Hartlepool to Woodbridge when he swerved and crashed into bollards in the town, a court heard.

The 41-year-old, of Jacques Court, Hartlepool, was arrested and taken to the police station where he was found to be almost four times the drink-drive limit.

Trueman, who admitted drink-driving when he appeared before South East Suffolk Magistrates Court in Ipswich, will be sentenced at a later date.

Godfried Duah, prosecuting, told magistrates that the 41-year-old man collided with bollards as he was driving his motor vehicle in Old Barrack Road last Thursday.

The police were called after a passer-by saw what had happened.

Mr Duah said: "Trueman got out of his vehicle and was seen to be panicking and was smoking.

"When police spoke to him, they realised he smelled of intoxicating liquor."

Mr Duah told the court Trueman was taken to the police station, where he was found to have 139mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcgs.

Roger Thomson, mitigating, told the court Trueman was on his way to his first contract in months.

He said: "He has been on incapacity benefit. He got a contract at Sizewell B - for the first time since December.

"He was on his way from Hartlepool to Sizewell B. He had been drinking the night before and had alcohol in his system and [that day] he stopped in Woodbridge and had some from a plastic bottle."

Trueman, who has been released on unconditional bail, was given an interim driving ban until the date of his next court appearance.

The case has been adjourned for four weeks for reports.
