SHAMED Graham Pugh faces jail in the New Year after he was more than FOUR times the legal drink drive limit when he tried to park his car.

Pugh, of Woodhouse Square, Ipswich, was rumbled by an off duty policeman after he clipped a car while reversing, a court heard.

The 47-year-old –who has a drink problem – is the latest to be named and shamed by The Star for putting lives at risk by taking to the road after boozing.

Pugh was spotted by the off-duty officer hitting a parked car as he reversed back along Burrell Road early on Christmas Eve, prosecutor John Hardwick told South East Suffolk Magistrates.

"The driver was unsteady on his feet," said Mr Hardwick. "He was slurring, he smelt of intoxicating liquor and his eyes were glazed."

A roadside breath test proved positive. It showed 144 mcg in 100 ml of breath. The legal limit is 35 mcg.

The court heard he had previous drink related conviction since 1998, such as being drunk and disorderly.

John Hughes, mitigating, said Pugh, who pleaded guilty to drink driving, had parked his car on yellow lines earlier in the day and was trying to find a parking space.

Hughes said: "He (Pugh) does have a drink problem and is trying to address it but needs further help in respect of that."

Magistrates ordered reports before sentencing on January 21 with all options open, including custody.

Pugh was given an interim driving ban in the meantime.
