Two drink drivers have been banned from the road by Ipswich magistrates.

Joseph Taylor, of Lower Street, Stratford St Mary, was twice the legal limit when he was driving in Norwich Road, Ipswich.

The 24-year-old admitted driving with excess alcohol on September 19 when he appeared before South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court.

Prosecutor Simon Bravery said police noticed Taylor driving a Ford Fiesta at around 4.25am.

He was stopped after his car tyres screeched when he changed direction.

A subsequent breath test showed he had 70 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35mcgs.

Taylor, representing himself, told the court he had been drinking during the day while watching football with friends. He then went to sleep and thought he would be fit to drive after waking up.

Magistrates disqualified Taylor from driving for 18 months and fined him £390.

He must also pay £85 costs, a £150 criminal courts charge and £39 to the victims’ fund.

In a separate case Daniel Thiemann, of Islington, also received an 18-month driving ban after being stopped in Beach Station Road, Felixstowe, on October 15.

The 43-year-old admitted drink-driving when he appeared before magistrates.

The court heard Thiemann was driving a Jeep Cherokee when a police officer noticed his vehicle in Langer Road.

The Jeep was stopped due to concerns over its MoT certificate.

A subsequent breath test showed Thiemann had 67mcgs of alcohol in 100mls of breath.

In addition to his disqualification unemployed Thiemann must also pay a total of £335 in fines and costs.
