A MOTORIST was being questioned by police last night after a crash that killed a motorcyclist in Ipswich.

The collision in Landseer Road happened at about 6.15pm yesterday.

Police said the crash involved a Mitsubishi four wheel drive and a Honda motorcycle.

Emergency services were called to the scene and the biker was taken by ambulance to Ipswich Hospital but was certified dead not long after arrival.

He was a 51-year-old man from Ipswich but his identity has not yet been released.

Police said the male Mitsubishi driver had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Last night, he was in custody and awaiting questioning at Ipswich Police Station.

The road was closed for several hours last night as specialist accident investigators worked to try and establish the cause of the tragedy.

The scene, close to the roundabout with Nacton Road and Rands Way, was sealed off as six police vehicles remained at the crash site.

Police have appealed for anyone who saw the accident or saw the vehicles shortly before the crash to come forward.
