Driver's lucky escape

VIDEO A driver had a lucky escape this morning after his car flipped over and landed on its roof in Felixstowe.The car completely demolished a telegraph pole before hitting a fence which brought the car to a halt.

A DRIVER had a lucky escape this morning after his car flipped over and landed on its roof in Felixstowe.

The car completely demolished a telegraph pole before hitting a fence which brought the car to a halt.

The young man, who called the police from his overturned car was taken to hospital but his injuries are not thought to be serious.

The accident happened at around 8am today when his brand new blue BMW clipped a kerb on the Grove Road.

Pc Peter Hawkins at the scene said: “The driver clipped the kerb which threw him off.

“I asked the driver what he did at that point and he said: 'I closed my eyes.'

“He was lucky a fence stopped him from travelling any further.”

Jack Stephenson, 78, of nearby Glenfield Road witnessed the crash.

He said: “First thing I knew about it was being woken by my neighbour. The same thing happened ten or 11 years ago and I got quite a bit of firewood out of it.”
