HEROIN junkie Suzanne Brown stole to feed her addiction, a court heard.

Brown, of St Francis Court, Ipswich – who lost her parents through drugs – admitted attempted theft from a supermarket.

She also admitted stealing children's clothes from Next and Adams and dishonestly receiving stolen goods.

The court heard Brown walked out of Adams store after she was spotted hiding an item of children's wear under her jacket on February 23.

On her arrest she was also found in possession of children's clothes from Next, said prosecutor Sandra Dyer.

Earlier that month, on February 16, Brown left a supermarket with a £49.99 micro CD system without paying for it.

Mark Holt, mitigating, said the shoplifting was "relatively minor" offence as the items had been recovered.

Brown, 21, was a heroin addict for six years and got into drug abuse through her parents.

"Both parents passed away via overdose of heroin," he told the court.

"Petty offences were committed by Miss Brown in order to feed her addiction," he told South East Suffolk Magistrates.

He asked the bench to consider adjourning the case to assess her suitability for a drug treatment and testing order.

The court also heard how Brown was spotted on CCTV looking through some stolen towels in the town centre with two other people on April 7.

When questioned by police she admitted handling the items.

Bench chairman Patrick Oudkerk ordered reports for sentencing on May 7 with all options open, including custody.
