Drum and Monkey pub in Ipswich to come down before the end of spring

The former Drum and Monkey pub in Princes Street in Ipswich is expected to be demolished by the end of next month.
The site is expected to become a 28-vehicle extension to Ipswich Council’s Portman Road car park while the long-term future of that part of town is decided.
An outline planning application to use the site as a temporary car park was approved by the borough last year, but a full application still has to be debated by the planning and development committee next Wednesday.
Officers recommend that the application is approved – saying is it a “modest” increase in the number of car parking spaces and that it would tidy up a derelict site while increasing space for workers in nearby offices.
If that is approved, work to extend the car park is due to start soon after the building is demolished – with the car park open for business by the summer.
