A teenager must pay nearly £300 in fines and court costs after admitting being drunk and disorderly in Kesgrave.

Luke Boggis - of Defoe Road, Ipswich, but formerly of Elmers Lane, Kesgrave - pleaded guilty when he appeared at South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court.

The incident occurred at around 12.55am on November 7.

Prosecutor Colette Harper said officers in a police van were driving in Main Road, Kesgrave, when they saw the 19-year-old struggling with his bike.

The court heard he appeared heavily intoxicated.

Boggis was advised to push his bicycle home.

Mrs Harper said he stepped out into the middle of the road and appeared to film the officers as they left.

They tried to move him on to the path but he became abusive swearing and threatening to break one officer’s jaw.

The officer walked Boggis to the verge and he was said to have gone nose to nose and repeated his threat.

The court was told Boggis had been convicted of drink-driving in March this year and also received a caution in April for a drink-related matter.

Boggis, representing himself, said he could not remember saying he would break the officer’s jaw.

He added he had been trying to take a photograph of the number plate of the police vehicle.

Boggis said he swore at the officer because when the handcuffs were put on him they were cutting into him.

Asked by the magistrates how he felt now Boggis replied: “I feel like an idiot.”

He was fined £35 and ordered to pay court costs of £85 and a £150 criminal courts charge. Boggis must also pay £20 to the victims’ fund.
