A DRUNKEN brawl with her partner has led to a 26-year-old woman being banned from driving.

IPSWICH: A drunken brawl with her partner has led to a 26-year-old woman being banned from driving.

She was one of two people to appear before magistrates in the town who ended up both being given a year's ban from the road.

The court was told that Nicola Seager was stopped by police in Westholme Road, Ipswich, on February 6.

Seager, of Bramford Road, was found to have consumed 72 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 micrograms.

She appeared at South East Suffolk Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty to drink driving.

Prosecutor Wayne Ablett said Seager had driven to her father's home following a fight with her partner.

Mr Ablett said: “They had been out drinking but had an argument. She stayed out while he went home.

“When the defendant got home she found her partner had chucked her belongings and their pet whippet out of the house. They then punched each other and a witness saw the defendant sprawled on the bonnet of a car before falling to the ground. She drove to her father's home and he called the police to report the incident. But when officers arrived it became clear she had been drinking before driving round there.”

Neil Saunders, mitigating, said: “Escaping to her parent's home quickly was her only option. She didn't want to call a taxi because that would have meant waiting around.”

Seager was disqualified from driving for a year but agreed to take a drink drive awareness course to reduce the ban to nine months. She was also fined 150, ordered to pay costs of 85 and a victim surcharge of 15.

Also appearing in court was Fonseca Dirani, of Canons Walk, Thetford.

Dirani, a 39-year-old factory worker, was stopped by police in Norwich Road, Ipswich, on February 6.

A breath test revealed he had consumed 41 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Dirani was banned from driving for a year, fined 200, ordered to pay costs of 85 and a victim surcharge of 15.
