Dunelm is the latest firm which is set to move out of Suffolk Retail Park in Ipswich, as plans have been lodged to fill a vacant unit at Anglia Retail Park.

The home furnishing retailer submitted a planning application last month to fill an empty unit on the eastern side of the out-of-town retail park.

The plans come after The Range announced last month it wanted to move out of the often-congested Suffolk Retail Park between Yarmouth Road and London Road into Anglia Retail Park.

Camping store Go Outdoors has also announced its intention to put a store in the Whitehouse-based park, which is viewed favourably by firms for its close access to the A14.

Dunelm’s planning application sets out a request to create a new shopfront and mezzanine floor, and details other locations such as the former Co-op in Carr Street, the former Tesco in Grafton Way and the empty TJ Hughes unit in the Buttermarket as unsuitable.

A retail assessment by Barton Willmore on behalf of Dunelm said the move would have little impact on the town centre, and added: “It has been demonstrated that there are no sequentially preferable sites that are available, suitable and viable for the proposed development, even allowing for flexibility in approach.”

A spokesman from Dunelm declined to comment.
