ONE hundred Dutch transport enthusiasts were today paying a flying visit to the Ipswich Transport Museum.Members of the Amsterdam Bus Museum were bringing four of their historic buses all the way from the Netherlands by the Harwich ferry on Friday night.
ONE hundred Dutch transport enthusiasts were today paying a flying visit to the Ipswich Transport Museum.
Members of the Amsterdam Bus Museum were bringing four of their historic buses all the way from the Netherlands by the Harwich ferry on Friday night.
Members will then be treated to a guided tour of the Ipswich Transport Museum at Cobham Road, Priory Heath, Ipswich Buses Constantine Road Depot, and Ipswich Town Centre.
Fred Van Der Spek, of the Amsterdam Bus Museum said: "We are looking forward to visiting our friends in the UK. Ipswich is well known for having one of the best transport museums and local bus networks in the country". Mark Smith, Chairman of the Friends of Ipswich Transport Museum said: "We hope our Dutch visitors will enjoy their visit and look forward to seeing their historic vehicles. Many Dutch buses of the 1950's and 1960's were actually made in England, but are obviously quite different to ours, not least being left hand drive".
After visiting Ipswich the Dutchmen are taking their vehicles to the 'Showbus 2002' rally at Duxford, Cambridgeshire tomorrow – the biggest bus and coach gathering of its kind.
