ECONOMY class syndrome has claimed the life of a Suffolk woman who died just days after arriving home from a medium haul flight from New York.
Thelma Stacey, 49, from Grammar School Place, Sudbury died of a blood clot on her lungs due to deep veined thrombosis (DVT) on November 24 last year.
DVT has been linked to cramped cabin conditions on aircraft.
An inquest in Bury St Edmunds today was told how she died at home after complaining of a lump in her leg and flu-like symptoms after a Virgin Atlantic flight.
Giving a narrative verdict, Dr Peter Dean said: "Her death also had a number of contributary factors which included phlevitis, a possible stomach infection, history of cancer and the drugs that she took for her cancer."
