AMERICAN rock legends the Eagles are being lined up to appear at Portman Road this summer.

Ipswich Town have been in talks with the supergroup and Saturday, June 20 has been pencilled in as the most likely date.

Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B Schmidt, will belt out hits such as Hotel California, Desperado and Take It Easy, while also promoting their latest album Long Road Out Of Eden at the Blues' stadium.

The Town date has yet to be confirmed but would be part of a European tour and fits in between their gigs in Brussels on June 18 and Galway on June 28.

Town did not have any concerts at the ground last summer but in recent years, Elton John, Neil Diamond, REM and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, have appeared.

One concern for Town fans will be the state of the pitch following the gig.

Groundsman Alan Ferguson has been less than pleased with the way the new turf has taken after being re-laid in previous years and even though he will have nearly six weeks for the new pitch to take there will be concerns.

With six Grammy Awards, six number one albums and five number one singles under their belts, the Eagles have a huge following all over the world and played in front of more than 60,000 at Twickenham three years ago.

Formed in California in the early 1970's the Eagles split up in 1980 but reformed 14 years later and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.

Their Greatest Hits album, originally released in 1976 continues to sell well with more than 42millions copies sold worldwide.

Ipswich Town declined to comment on the story, and Azoff Music Management, who manage the Eagles, could not be contacted.
