The latest report follows a short inspection by the school’s watchdog last month.

East Bergholt High School is celebrating after a maintaining their ‘good’ Ofsted rating.

The report notes that leadership at the school continues to be good and described senior staff as leading the school “with dedication and commitment” and added that pupils received “very strong levels of support, guidance and care.”

The inspection described safeguarding at the school as effective with pupils at the school telling Ofsted that poor behaviour, including bullying, at the school was a rare occurrence and if it did take place then it was dealt with effectively.

Overall KS4 pupils were noted as having made progress above the national average in the more core subjects of English, mathematics and the humanities.

It did however note that progress was not so strong in other ‘option’ modules picked by students including drama and art.

One of the inspectors’ main recommendations was to address this inconsistency to help pupils progress evenly across all subjects studied.

The report also called for more help for disadvantaged pupils as progress levels amongst these students were not as high as their non-disadvantaged peers.

It also acknowledged that “there is still room” for the school to improve provisions for the most abled students as some did not feel challenged in all lessons.

East Bergholt headteacher, Colin Turner said about the results: “We are very pleased with the outcome of our Ofsted inspection. There are many very positive comments in the final Inspection letter about the areas that we do well, including strengthening further the quality of teaching since our last inspection.

“We are delighted that the letter also contains a number of great comments about our students, commenting that they enjoy school, behave very well, take advantage of the wide range of extra-curricular opportunities available, and are courteous and polite to adults and each other.

“The report also acknowledges, and details, the actions we are taking in our key areas of development, as we will always strive to further improve outcomes for our students.

“It is a very positive report of which every member of the school community can be very proud.”
