RARE chickens will be on display at a Suffolk farm attraction again after its owner was inundated with pledges of help.

Richard Storer, who runs Baylham House Rare Breeds Farm, near Needham Market, launched a hunt for the rare Ixworth chicken after a fox got into the farm's chicken pens, killing almost all his stock.

Mr Storer is planning to put the eggs in an incubator once they have been collected so visitors to the attraction can watch them hatch.

"I was staggered by the response and it's absolutely marvellous chatting to all the people who phoned," he said.

"We have had about three offers of fertile eggs and we are planning to put up a notice when they are going to hatch so people visiting that day can watch," he added.

The Ixworth chicken breed was originally created by Reginald Appleyard in 1932, taking as its name the Suffolk village in which he lived.

Baylham House Rare Breeds Farm is open from 11am everyday and can be contacted on 01473 830264. For more information on Mr Fenning's breeding programme call 01473 890503.
