Ed Sheeran is set to hit the BBC Radio Four airwaves as the first castaway of the new series of Desert Island Discs in May.

The singer-songwriter, from Framlingham, has had a hugely successful year so far, topping the singles charts for 13 consecutive weeks with Shape of You and dominating the top five with hits including Galway Girl and Castle on the Hill.

His third album Divide has been named the UK’s biggest-selling record of the year so far and has been at the top of the album charts for five weeks.

His appearance on the world renowned Desert Island Discs, which celebrated its 75th year in January, sees him follow in the footsteps of high profile stars such as Bruce Springsteen, Kylie Minogue, Noel Gallagher and Michael Buble.

On the show the 26-year-old will be interviewed by host Kirsty Young about his influences and life experiences while he reveals his choice for the eight discs he would take with him to a fictional desert island.

He will also be able to pick a luxury item and a book to take with him – as well as the complete works of Shakespeare and the Bible.

Ed’s Desert Island Discs interview is set to be broadcast on Sunday May 7 at 11.15am on BBC Radio Four.
