Police are appealing for information after bogus callers struck at two pensioners' homes.

The bogus callers struck at Great Blakenham, near Ipswich and Stowmarket and officers are warning people to be on their guard after the incidents yesterday.

At around 11.45am a man called at the home of an 87-year-old man in Chapel Lane, Great Blakenham, claiming that he was carrying out work on a boiler up the road and needed to check the water pressure at his property.

The pensioner did not believe him and refused to let him in.

The man is described as white, tall, slim build, around 18-years-old, dark hair and smartly dressed.

At around 12.45pm three men claiming to be from the Water Board called at an elderly couple's home in Bond Street, Stowmarket.

While one of the men kept the occupants distracted his accomplices searched the upstairs rooms, although it is unclear of anything was stolen at this stage.

The three men all spoke with Irish accents and are described as white, one aged around 18 and around five feet three inches tall; the other two are aged between 20 and 40-years-old and one was wearing a grey jumper.

Anyone who recognises the offenders or has any information should contact police on 01284 774100 or Crimestoppers on freephone 0800 555111.
