POLICE in Suffolk are appealing for information after three people in their nineties were targeted by distraction burglars.

The first incident occurred between 12.30pm and 12.45pm on Friday in School Lane, Martlesham.

A woman was in her garden when a man said hello to her and walked towards the garden next-door.

After a few minutes he spoke to the woman again.

Minutes later she went inside her home and discovered her red plastic wallet, containing a quantity of cash, had been stolen.

The man police want to trace is described as white, in his 40s or 50s, about 6ft, of heavy build with broad shoulders and short dark hair that was slicked back and greying at the sides.

He was wearing light coloured trousers and a zip-up anorak or similar that is believed to have been light green.

The second incident happened about 7pm on Friday at an address in Leiston High Street.

A man knocked at the door and told the resident that he had just caught someone coming out of his property.

The resident then closed the door on the caller to check if cash had been taken and then went back to the door to confirm it was all OK.

A few minutes later he realised that he had left a light on so went back to the room.

He found the window open and the money he had checked moments earlier had gone.

It is thought the man at the door had watched while the resident had originally checked the cash.

The offender in this case is described as white, in his late teens to 20s, around 5ft 6in, of slim build with dark hair.

He was wearing a dark jacket and carrying another jacket.

A third incident happened in Ipswich earlier in the day when two men followed a woman into a residential home in Waveney Road about 4.15pm and claimed they were visiting a resident.

They entered the room of a 90-year-old female resident and asked for a pen and paper.

She became suspicious and pulled her emergency cord and the males left.

The males are described as of Mediterranean appearance.

The first was 5ft 10in, of slim build, with short mousy hair and was clean-shaven.

He was wearing a denim-style jacket and jeans.

The second was 5ft 8in, of slim build with short curly mousy hair and was wearing a denim-type jacket and jeans.
