A MAJOR Ipswich road is closed today after an accident left an elderly woman seriously ill in hospital.
A police spokeswoman said police were investigating after a collision at about 4pm at the junction between Bell Lane and Foxhall Road between a 7.5 ton lorry and a VW Polo.
The accident left an elderly woman with serious chest and abdominal injuries. She was taken to Ipswich Hospital.
A spokeswoman said Foxhall Road was closed from the junction with Arundel Way to the A12 roundabout.
She added: "Expect delays for some considerable time yet while investigations are ongoing. The injuries are not thought to be life threatening and her condition is described as stable."
