AN ELDERLY Ipswich woman has been left shocked and stunned after an arson attack destroyed her car with flames from the vehicle spreading to her house.

Ethel Warren, 86, said she has been left worried about a repeat attack after the traumatic incident in the early hours of Monday morning.

Police say offenders broke into her red Metro, parked on her driveway, at about 3.30am before setting light to it.

The flames spread to her house damaging her front door and several windows.

Mrs Warren said: “My neighbour rang me to tell me my car was on fire and they told me not to come out my front door because that was on fire as well.

“It has made me very anxious, I was nearly afraid to go to bed the next night in case they came back and set another fire.

“It was a beautiful little car. I'm 86, I don't want shocks like this.”

Mrs Warren said she has been overwhelmed by support offered to her by neighbours, friends and the emergency services.

Police even said they would put on additional patrols in the area in the aftermath of the attack.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Pc Jeremy Cohen at Ipswich police on 01473 613500.
