AN Ipswich general election candidate today said he would look to remove a film posted on the internet that appears to show him firing a gun.

Chris Streatfield, 32, who has been selected to stand for the UK Independence Party (UKIP) at the next election, can be seen with what looks like a handgun on a minute-long clip featured on website You Tube.

During the film, the aspiring politician walks through woods with another man who himself is carrying what resembles a semi-automatic assault rifle.

Both guns featured in the film are fakes incapable of firing.

At one stage Mr Streatfield, who lives in Needham Market, is filmed turning and appears to fire a weapon.

Both men are seen wearing military-style fatigues.

Mr Streatfield, who says he wants to stand for election in Ipswich because he believes in “freedom, independence and democracy”, admitted today he had no idea the clip was on the internet.

He said he thought the film was recorded four or five years ago and was one of several he had appeared in for a friend who makes short science fiction films.

He added that the pair were acting out a science fiction plot involving a monster.

“It was just a bit of harmless fun,” he said.

“I will have a word and see if it can be taken down.

“I haven't seen it and don't know what was on it.

“I have got cousins I visit in America and some of them have got guns which I have fired but that is my only experience with guns.

“I'm not into guns.”
