Ipswich council leader David Ellesmere has spoken about his disappointment about the closure of the Mygo employment centre for young people in the town.
Mygo is set to close at the end of March – less than four years after it opened with a flourish – after its funding was cut and Suffolk County Council was unable to find other money to keep it running.
It was a partnership between the county and other bodies under the Ipswich City Deal, but the funding was not renewed.
Mr Ellesmere said he learned the centre would close during discussions with other Suffolk public sector leaders.
He said: “It is very disappointing that there was no further funding for the centre. It is very valuable at reaching out to youngsters who are not reached by Job Centres – it was good at working with people described as NEETS (those Not in Education, Employment or Training).”
