Extra beds have been made available for rough sleepers in Ipswich ahead of a forecasted cold snap.
Ipswich Borough Council has activated its emergency accommodation scheme for the town’s homeless until further notice.
The 11 cold weather beds are provided in partnership with Genesis Housing Association at Cavendish Lodge in Turret Lane.
The council has made the move as a winter weather front nicknamed the ‘Beast from the East’ prepares to strike the region.
According to the Met Office, temperatures in the East of England will plunge this weekend, with overnight frost becoming more severe and an increasing risk of snow showers on Monday.
Access to Cavendish Lodge is from 5pm for an initial consultation with staff, with risk assessments completed by 6pm. After that, access will be limited to service users being brought in by prior agreement of staff or by police.
