SUFFOLK Coastal has had a free energy audit carried out on its main buildings by the Carbon Trust which has identified how money can be saved.
The trust visited the council's main Melton Hill offices, which has an energy bill of nearly £45,000, the Spa Pavilion Theatre, Felixstowe Leisure Centre, and Ufford Depot.
Andrew Nunn, cabinet member for the natural environment, said: ''This review has helped compare how well we are doing comparatively and will help us identify where we need to concentrate our efforts.
''For example, we now know that our use of gas at Melton Hill is relatively okay but that our electricity usage is higher than it could be.
''Ideas have been suggested that could reduce our office bill by over five per cent, while over a third could be saved at Felixstowe Leisure Centre. What we now have to do is measure the costs and calculate whether the savings would be worth the investment that would be required.''
