SPECIAL medical equipment has been bought for Ipswich Hospital, after its League of Friends raised around £43,000 in a year.The fundraising total was announced at the League's AGM held at Orwell Park School, Nacton, when members were delighted to present a cheque for £10,000 towards a new otoacoustic machine to test babies' hearing.

The fundraising total was announced at the League's AGM held at Orwell Park School, Nacton, when members were delighted to present a cheque for £10,000 towards a new otoacoustic machine to test babies' hearing.
They have also managed to buy a fibreoptic laryngoscope which is used to look down a patient's throat when their airways are blocked.
Hospital consultant Stephen Myers received the laryngoscope from the League's chairman Patricia Salisbury, press officer Jane Symes and Jane Stevenson, chairwoman of Tommy's Campaign in Suffolk.
Tommy's Campaign members raised more than £9,000 at an opera gala evening, and half the proceeds were donated to the hospital's neonatal unit, through the League.
Mrs Stevenson said: "At the Tommy's Campaign we fundraise for a national programme of research, into problem pregnancies and neonatal babies, and we thought it would be good to use the funds to provide support at a local level."
Members are also selling 2002 calendars, featuring artwork from Orwell Park School, and Christmas cards of pictures by local artists Wendy Beck and Colin Chandler.
