EAST of England Euro MP Tom Wise has again been granted police bail as allegations into expenses fraud continues.

Mr Wise, who was elected to Brussels in 2004 to represent the UK Independence Party but who is now sitting as an Independent, was questioned by Bedfordshire police before Christmas and bailed until March 27. The bail has now been renewed until May 20.

Mr Wise was suspended from the UK Independence Party in May 2007 when he became the subject of a European Parliament inquiry into allegations he claimed money to pay one of his staff's wages, but did not pass on all the cash to her.

UKIP suspended his membership “for failure to provide information responding to alleged fraud irregularities that are now being investigated by OLAF (the European anti-fraud body).”
