Evening of celebration for George, three, as last event raises £12,850

The final event to raise funds for a young boy from Ipswich suffering from a rare and debilitating condition has smashed its fundraising target.
A ‘cocktails and celebration evening’ at Trinity Park organised by the family of three-year-old George Woodward, was sold out with 460 people who were dressed to impress raising £12,850 – more than the targeted £10,000.
The event was the last held by George’s parents – Laura Barber and Lee Woodward – with all funds going to make his life easier.
George was just 21 months old when he was diagnosed with Type 2 spinal muscular atrophy, a genetic and life-limiting disease that causes muscle weakness, breathing difficulties and leads to severe disability.
But on Saturday, he was full of energy and on the dancefloor, partying until the end of the night.
Miss Barber said: “It was a complete success – we’re very pleased.”
Ashton Jones and Innerheart Band provided the entertainment for the evening, while there was also an auction and raffle, with prizes on offer including a tour of Old Trafford, a signed Ipswich Town shirt and a signed ITFC football.

“It was a brilliant evening,” Miss Barber said.
“There was an old-fashioned sweet cart, a selfie mirror and a photo and drink on arrival.
“We have had an amazing journey and it was a night to remember, it really was.
“Everyone we asked had a lovely time – we pulled it off.”
The final touches are being made to George’s family home, while he, his parents and two-year-old sister Ivy live with Miss Barber’s mother.
Miss Barber gave thanks to George’s aunt, Crystal, saying: “She’s so passionate about fundraising for George. She’s amazing, I can’t thank her enough.
“My family and I wouldn’t be here today with the things we have for George if it wasn’t for Crystal.”
She added: “There were so many people that knew George there that knew him – he was like a celebrity.
“It feels like a relief – everyone had a great time and raised more than we imagined we would.
“Thank-you to everyone who has helped us to get to where we are today – we really do appreciate it.
“George is doing well at the moment and as everyone knows he is a happy little boy and has a great personality.”
