WE'RE taking to the rails yet again!

The Evening Star has teamed up with East Anglian company Nenta Traintours to run a special InterCity train from Felixstowe and Ipswich to the North East of England.

The train, which will run on July 19, will take passengers to York, Durham or Newcastle on Tyne.

From Durham there will be buses arranged to take passengers to the world-famous Beamish open-air museum where they can travel back in time to the early years of the 20th century.

The train will be pulled by one of the most modern diesel locomotives on the rail network, a Class 67 – the first of its type to venture down the Felixstowe branch.

It can travel at speeds of up to 125 miles an hour up the East Coast Main Line between Peterborough and Newcastle.

Passengers will have about five hours in Newcastle, longer in Durham and York.

Starting and finishing at Felixstowe, the train will also call at Trimley, Derby Road, Ipswich, Stowmarket, and Bury St Edmunds.

This will be the fourth train the Evening Star has organised with Nenta – in 1998 we went to York, the following year we ran a special to Minehead and Weston-Super-Mare in Somerset.

And no one on board will forget the Evening Star Wembley Express which took fans to and from Town's sensational play-off victory, the last competitive club match played under the twin towers.

"Evening Star trains have always been memorable, wherever they've been to," said Star editor Nigel Pickover.

"It's time that we brought an InterCity train back to Felixstowe – and this trip will give people the opportunity for a wonderful day in the middle of summer."

Provisional timings suggest that the train will leave Felixstowe at about 7am and return shortly before 11pm – but these will not be confirmed until about two weeks before departure.

There are three classes of travel in the InterCity train which will be hired from Anglia Railways: standard class, first class, and premier class with full English breakfast, a light lunch, and three-course dinner on the way home included.

Tickets cost:

Standard Adult £43.75, Child £21.75.

First Adult £58.75, Child £36.75.

Premier Adult ££014.50 Child £89.50.

Tickets can be booked through Nenta Traintours, Railtour House, 10 Buxton Road, North Walsham, NR28 0ED, on 01692-406152 or e-mail enquiries@nentatraintours.co.uk
