ANYONE and everyone is being called upon to make Ipswich bloomin' gold this year.

The Ipswich in Bloom committee is back up and running and plants are being tended.

In preparation for the visit of the Queen, the committee is really hoping to go for gold this year.

Ugur Vata, runs the Galley Restaurant in St Nicholas Street and is chairman of the committee. He said: "The appearance of our town is very important and anything which helps to improve it must be good."

"With the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations fast approaching and with a Royal visit planned in the summer there has never been a better opportunity to go for gold!"

This year the committee is hoping to do well in the Anglia in Bloom competition.

The competition is strongly supported by the Evening Star and Ipswich Borough Council.

Evening Star brand manager Austen Dack said it is extremely important that everyone should get involved.

He said: "It is very important on two accounts. One, to see the town looking good with all the flowers, hanging baskets and displays.

"And also it will brighten the whole town up for the Queen's visit on July 17."

Entry forms for Ipswich in Bloom will be available from April, anyone who wants to get involved should call Austen Dack on 01473 282384 or e-mail: austen.dack@eveningstar.co.uk
