Bruce Karwoski, of All Saints Road, Ipswich, is understood to have formerly been a chemistry teacher at Northgate High School.

The 52-year-old is accused of 15 counts of engaging in sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 17 by an adult in a position of trust.

Suffolk Constabulary has confirmed the charges relate to two complainants. Seven of the allegations involved the first girl, the remainder the second. The accusations date back a number of years. Karwoski was arrested on January 15.

He was taken to the police investigation centre at Suffolk Constabulary’s Martlesham headquarters where he was interviewed. Karwoski was charged the same day.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk Constabulary said Karwoski was released on bail until what was scheduled to be the first hearing of his case, which was due to take place at South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court today.

However, the date of the hearing was moved and Karwoski is now due to appear before the same court on March 15.

David Hutton, headteacher of Northgate High School, said: “An historical allegation against a member of staff was received by Northgate High School in early 2015.

“Immediate steps were taken to make the Local Authority Designated Officer and police aware.

“All advice and procedures were subsequently followed and we have co-operated fully with the police throughout their investigation.

“The person against whom the allegation was made is no longer employed at the school.”
