A FORMER Ipswich Town footballer was the star guest at a school fete, which saw the headteacher pelted with wet sponges.

Jason Dozzell, uncle of one of the pupils at Whitehouse Junior School, Ipswich, joined parents, teachers and pupils at the event in the school's grounds at Marlow Road.

The ex-Spurs player had a portrait of himself done by Dorothy Dunnell, the school's art co-ordinator.

Headteacher Di Gooding said: "We are always thrilled when people give up their time. Jason came here last year and the

children treat him as an old friend."

Children could bounce on a bouncy castle in the morning and between £600 and £700 was raised during the day for the St Elizabeth's Hospice.

Mrs Gooding said: "We do a lot of fund-raising for other people, including Comic Relief. However, one of the former members of staff here died recently. She was in the hospice, so this is for them."

She added that along with the bouncy castle, there were book and cake stalls, a bean bag throwing competition, and a pair of stocks, in which teachers faced up to wet sponges thrown by the children.

Mrs Gooding continued: "I was in the stocks and trying to run the book stall.

"We also had to

persuade some of the teachers to have a go."
