EDGAR Miller scooped three A-levels despite not being able to write due to cerebral palsy.

But don't try telling him that is a remarkable achievement – he was not happy with the grades.

He said: "I was a bit disappointed because I needed two Bs and a C to get into Essex University."

Fortunately, the 18-year-old, of Philip Road, Ipswich, made his second offer and is off to Bradford in September.

The former Stoke High student sat his A-levels in IT, media and geography at Chantry.

And the only difference in the exams was that he had a bit of help from a scribe.

But that is a big enough difference in itself – as anyone who has ever dictated a letter will know.

Edgar said: "It makes it harder because you've got to think about what you are saying.

"It's much easier to write it down than to put your thoughts into words."

Much of Edgar's studying has been aided by computer technology, which has in part inspired his degree choice.

He will be studying cybernetics at Bradford and is looking forward to the student staples of plenty of pub time with worked fitted in.

Edgar said: "I will be staying in a ground floor flat in halls so I won't be going up stairs too much.

"And I'll have an assistant for cooking and personal care which should make life easier.

"I'm looking forward to getting down the pub, but I'll have to strike a balance between work and play."

Edgar's school success is just part of the inspirational life he leads, none of which is overly inhibited by his disability.

Upon arriving in Bradford, he is hoping to find a disabled football team – although he is guaranteed first team football back in Ipswich over the holidays – and to a boxing club.

He said: "The best piece of advice I can give to anyone else is not to listen to anybody who puts you down.

"Just go for it and give it your best shot – it works and it shocks people as well.

"People will respect you for it."
