A DEVASTATED family is trying to come to terms with the tragic deaths of a mother and her new-born baby boy just hours after she gave birth.

Tricia Bloomfield, who already had four children, died in hospital with her baby Joshua less than 36 hours after he was delivered by an emergency Caesarean section, two weeks before the birth was expected.

With her husband Tim, the couple had spent most of their married life living in Horringer, near Bury St Edmunds, before moving to Norfolk after a two-year spell in New Zealand.

Tim, 45, and their other children, Carla, 17, Luke, 15, Jonathan, 13, and Peter, eight, are now striving to overcome the loss of the 40-year-old nurse described as "a loving mother and wife" and baby Joshua.

The pair tragically died at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, where Tricia had been working part-time.

It is believed the baby had been affected by a lack of oxygen at birth and the family is still awaiting the results of a post mortem on his sister-in-law. At one time during the operation to deliver Joshua it is thought Tricia may have suffered a heart attack.
