IPSWICH'S old rivals are drawing the battle lines in the haircut stakes ahead of this month's World Cup after showing off the latest England footie styles.

Dozens of patriotic fans in Norwich are now sporting flag-like follicles and the challenge has been set for Ipswich supporters to up the ante and come up with their own top cuts.

Barbers in Norwich have been inundated with requests for World Cup trims and Ipswich hair stylists will have to be on the top of their game to come out on top.

Many fans in Norwich have plumped for St George's crosses shaved into the back of their head on a red and white background.

However one fan opted to have a lion shaved into the side of his head.

Another brave patriot went for a Mohican on top with a football, featuring hexagon panels, shaved into the side of it.

The cut featured red highlights through the middle and a St George's Cross on the right-hand side with more red highlights.

It's now down to Ipswich fans to up their game and sport the styles that will help cheer the England team on to victory when they kick off their tournament against Paraguay next Saturday.

The Evening Star got in touch with several hair salons in Ipswich this week but was unable to find any that had given a World Cup trim.

However Maurice Ramsey, manager at Hairaisers in Carr Street, said his team would be up for the challenge.

“We have done that kind of thing in the past and are ready to do it again if customers ask for it,” Mr Ramsey said.

And Michelle Cousins, of Lewis Hair Team, in Dogs Head Sreet, said the stylists working there were ready with dyes and clippers for anyone wanting a soccer-style.

The gauntlet has been laid down.
