MORTITIA Adams, the Spice Girls, and Lara Croft were just some of the weird and wonderful guests at the fancy dress party to raise money in memory of teenager Kara Tournay-Godfrey.

Kara died from liver disease in June, aged 16.

Her friends and family have been working hard since to raise money for Kara's room – a room in the Bergholt ward at Ipswich Hospital which they would like to convert with patio doors and views of a garden.

Kara's sister Jade and two of her cousins organised a fancy dress party at the Next Generation gym in Cardinal Park, Ipswich.

"It was a great success and we had about 170 people turn up. My friend, Tom Wilmott, won the best costume – he is about 6ft 6 and came dressed as Lara Croft," laughed 20-year-old Jade.

But that was not the only surprise of the night, Kara's dad, Craig, dressed up as Posh Spice to join her mum Delia and three others for a rendition of Wannabe.

"We had Charlie's Angels going round with buckets to collect money so that the Spice Girls would sing. It was great and from this alone we raised more than £300. Even some of the nurses from the hospital came along dressed as fairies. Hopefully we will have raised about £2000 from the night which is an excellent result," added Jade.

The event is hoped to bring the fund one step closer to the £11,000 needed for Kara's Room.
