THE Raydon Wings air show has been given a boost with the announcement that Europe's only professional wing walking team have confirmed they will be taking to the skies above the premier event.

And hold on to your hat – The Evening Star has secured a place for a lucky reader join and train with the Utterly Butterly team at the Raydon Wings special press day.

Twins Rachel and Lorna Cookson, who are currently studying at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, will be delighting crowds on show day, September 1, with a sequence of daredevil antics that put the buzz back into air show flying.

The duo will brave 100mph winds to ride super-girl style, lying vertically in line with the aircraft's fuselage – a

position never previously attempted anywhere in the world.

The Utterly Butterlys' daredevil antics date from the glamorous era when young flying aces returned from the First World War with adventure fresh in their minds and adrenaline pumping through their veins. The thrill of flying had become an addiction and with surplus war aircraft cheaply available and countless citizens yearning to taste the thrill of flying the era of joyriding began.

Buzzing the main street at low level, these loveable rogues attracted excited crowds, hungry to free themselves from the shackles of gravity and taste the adventure of the skies.

The latest in safety technology and specially modified 450hp Boeing Stearman biplanes have ensured that in 2001 Europe's only professional wing-walking team are more dynamic and daring than ever before.

The team's awesome aircraft roar through the skies at 150mph, their nine foot propellers slicing through the air at supersonic speed and the pilots pulling 4G as they perform mouth-watering loops, rolls and stall turns.

To climax the show the lead Stearman will rotate inverted while the second aircraft moves in closely beneath and these darlings of the skies attempt to hold hands to form the perfect 'mirror' image.

Lucky Evening Star readers are just one question away from taking a walk on the wild side with the dare devil duo at the show's press day on August 22.

Entrants must be over 18 years old, under 6ft 1ins tall and under 14 stone. If you think you can wing walk - you can, according to team spokeswoman Rhiannon Nugent.

Raydon Wings in association with The Evening Star are also offering VIP tickets to the show as a second prize. All you have to do is answer this question.
