IPSWICH fans today expressed mixed feeling about the sacking of manager George Burley.

While many were shocked by the news, most were not surprised but felt George Burley has served his boyhood club well and should have been given more time to put things right.

John Harper, 55, of Ipswich, said: "I am shocked as I believe has done a very good job on a shoe-string budget. It is a bad decision. I would think Peter Reid is favourite to replace him.

Gareth Llewellyn, 35, said: "I am sad but not surprised. It has happened sooner than I expected. I would think Peter Reid, Joe Royle or George Graham are the favourites but if David O'Leary get the job that would be fantastic.

Ben Durrant, 19, of Ipswich said: "I am very surprised and shocked. I do not think it is the right decision. I would like to see Peter Reid as the next manager.

Richard Self, 46, of Ipswich, said: "Burley should have been given until Christmas. I never though he would be sacked as the club does not have a history of that. I think the directors have made a bad decision. Mick Mills or Peter Reid would be my preferred choices to replace him.

Teresa Barker of Ipswich said: "I am not altogether surprised by the news. I think the correct decision has been taken. He has been here a while now and its time for a change. Mick Mills should be the next manager."

Paul Maguire, 38, of Ipswich, who goes to most home games, said: "It's about time. Things have not been right for a while and the fans have been suffering this season. The club has made the correct decision. I'd like to see David O'Leary as his replacement."

Les Hart, 44, of Ipswich, said: "It's pretty sad news. He has done good work for the club and I think the bad results are down to the players. The club had to make a decision but I'm not sure if the timing is right. Peter Reid should be the next manager.

Tony Taylor of Ipswich, said: "I am very surprised and I think the club is panicking unreasonably. The players have not been getting the run of the ball. It's a bad decision. The next manager needs to come from outside the club.

Karen Ross, 38, of Ipswich, said: "I am a bit shocked, but I half expected it, the pressure was on Burley. I feel very sorry for him. I would like to see Mick Mills as Burley's replacement.
