A MAN killed in a collision with a suspected drink driver has been named by police.

James D'Arcy, 62, from Poplar Close in Witham died at the scene of the accident after his green fiat Punto collided with a black Mitsubishi Shogun estate.

The fatal crash happened just before 11am last Sunday at Three Mile Hill in Chelmsford on the A1016.

Both cars were travelling towards the A12 when they collided and the Fiat hit the central reservation.

A passenger in Mr D'Arcy's car, a girl in her late teens, was flown by air ambulance to Whitechapel Hospital in London with serious head injuries.

Her condition was described as “critical” earlier this week.

The driver of the Shogun, a 34-year-old man from the Stanford-le-Hope area, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and has been released on police bail until June 22.

Police have urged anyone information about the crash to contact the Chelmsford road policing unit on 0300 333 4444.
