AN Ipswich father today denied murdering his four-week-old baby and injuring the boy's mother.

Duncan Mills, 31, of London Road appeared at Ipswich Crown Court today charged with the murder of Luigi Mills and causing grievous bodily harm with intent to his mother Samantha Askew.

Mills, who appeared before judge John Devaux dressed in a grey tracksuit, pleaded not guilty to count one - that on May 25 or May 26 this year he murdered baby Luigi.

He went on to plead not guilty to the second count - that on May 25 or May 26 this year he unlawfully, maliciously caused grievous bodily harm to Samantha Askew.

At the beginning of the hearing, Mills rose to his feet and said: “Yes, I am” when asked to confirm that he was Duncan Mills.

His only other words during the hearing were his not guilty pleas.

Mills was remanded in custody and is likely to be brought back to court toward the end of November when the court is due to consider extending an order remanding him in custody.

Judge John Devaux ordered him to stand trial from January 14 next year.
