A cake making and decorating workshop was just one of the events being hosted at the Queen’s Road Day Centre, as the facility joined thousands of others in the country to mark the occasion.

The purpose of the event is to give social and care workers, as well as members of the public, the chance to promote people’s rights to dignity.

And this year the centre in Queen’s Road decided to put on activities all week for people to take part in.

Sam Cooper, a support worker at the day centre, said: “In promoting it all week, we have spoken to all our customers and got their opinions on what dignity means to them.

“It is a whole holistic approach to looking at what they want in their lives.

“It is building confidence in them.”

Users also took part in discussion groups where they were able to talk about their experiences of when they have and have not experienced being treated with dignity.

The centre runs a number of different activities for the elderly and adults each week.

And over the last few years, they have been heavily involved with Dignity Action Day.

Miss Cooper added: “It gives the customers a chance to have a voice and say what is and what isn’t being done.

“If there are any issues that any of them are dealing with, then it opens the door for them to be able to come and speak to a member of staff and support worker about what they are going through.”
