VOLUNTEERS backing a bid to find a new home for Felixstowe’s treasured Blue Cross animal rescue centre have raised more than 10,000 this year.

The community and events team is coming to the end of its fundraising season and will be holding its annual Christmas fayre on Saturday.

The event takes place at St Mary’s Church Hall, Walton High Street, from noon to 4pm with various stalls, raffle and refreshments.

Tom Crowley, from the fundraising group, said more than 10,300 had been raised so far in 2012.

“During the year the volunteers have attended shows, street collections and store collections,” he said. “The East of England Co-op have been very kind and allowed Blue Cross to carry out 16 store collections raising a total of 2,453.

“Stores in Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex were visited and the volunteers had an opportunity to promote the work of Blue Cross. We would like to thank all the staff at the stores who made our volunteers feel very welcome, and also everyone who, through their kindness and generosity, have shown their support for the rehoming centre.”
