Felixstowe: Cash among the coffee cups
THERE was plenty of fundraising fun and cash among the coffee cups as people in Felixstowe took part in events to help the Macmillan cancer charity.
Hundreds of pounds were raised as volunteer groups, businesses and others joined in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.
Sumptuous cakes, scones and biscuits were on offer, plus plenty of tea and coffee, raffles, tombolas and gifts stalls, and a chance to meet friends and help a good cause.
Mayor Mike Deacon hosted a coffee morning at the Town Hall, Undercliff Road West, a chance for people to visit the council chamber and see inside the refurbished civic building.
The morning raised �207 for the charity.
“It was a lovely event and everyone who came along really enjoyed it,” said Mr Deacon.
Meanwhile, at Felixstowe Academy, students took up the challenge of serving the refreshments with an event in the Sixth Form Study Centre at Garrison Campus, organised by teacher Debbie Hartley and her form, and at Maidstone Campus – where Linda Dixon was the leader – two events were held, one for year 11s and then another for the rest of the campus.

In total, academy students helped raise �350 for Macmillan.
Staff at Manning’s Amusement Park, Sea Road, held a Munch-In and coffee morning, with beef rolls and cakes, and an 80s and 90s disco plus a prize raffle at the park’s Q Club Sports Bar, raising a total of �730.
Gez Hughes, of Q Club, said: “It was a real team effort from everyone at the amusement park – all the traders we have here, and all the people from the farmer’s market and craft fair, and the Mannings family.
“We are thrilled with how much we raised and it was good fun, too.”
Macmillan hopes the coffee morning challenge has raised around �10 million nationally for its work with families coping with cancer.
