PEOPLE who have given years of service behind the scenes to different organisations in Felixstowe have been honoured by being presented with Mayor’s Awards.

Lapel badges were last night presented to five volunteers by mayor Doreen Savage at a ceremony at the town hall hosted by Felixstowe Town Council.

Gillian Barnett, Phil Hadwen, David Smith, Karl Wilkinson and Roy Yates were praised for their “outstanding service” in giving up their time to keep activities, services and clubs going.

In addition, 19-year-old university student Ross Frazer, of the 8th Felixstowe Scout Group, was presented with the HMS Ganges Youth Trophy, praised by Orwell District Commissioner Michael Hansen for his “exceptional commitment to scouting” both as a scout and as an adult leader.

The newly-launched Salvation Army Munch and Lunch Club received the town council’s award for an organisation.
