AS the search continues for a suitable site for a new state-of-the-art Blue Cross animal rescue centre, fundraisers are doing their bit to make the dream a reality.

The Complete the Dream appeal team has enjoyed another successful year – adding more than 3,000 to the growing pot to help towards the costs of the project.

The appeal currently stands at around 75,000.

Officials at the animal welfare charity have pledged to keep the re-homing centre in Walton High Street, open until a modern and larger replacement facility can be provided.

Their aim is to find a site in the Felixstowe area and hopes had been pinned on a 1.5 million project to transform former social club The Hollies, Foxhall, into a new centre but the charity pulled out just days before it was due to gain planning consent.

Blue Cross community and fundraising team volunteer Tom Crowley said every effort was still being made to find a site.

“Potential sites are still being looked at and as developments take place around the area we are always hopeful that new sites will come forward that might be suitable. In the meantime we are continuing our fundraising efforts,” he said.

“The people of Felixstowe over the past three months have shown their support for the work of the Blue Cross Re-homing Centre by giving generously on four occasions.

“I would like to thank all the good people of Felixstowe who have shown their support time and again.

“I would also like to thank the Blue Cross volunteers who regularly, donate their time and effort in the various roles at the centre and out and about in the community.”

On September 15, volunteers collected 303 outside Morrison’s store in Grange Farm Avenue, and on September 29, a street collection in Hamilton Road, raised 450.

The Blue Cross Christmas Fayre at St Mary’s Church Hall, Walton, saw 25 volunteers take part, running a variety of stalls, and raising 770.

A further 107 was then added at the Felixstowe Christmas lights switch-on.
