USERS of the resort’s skate park today insisted they are not the ones to blame after complaints were made about litter being strewn across the area.

The park opened in 2009 at Orwell Green, in Grange Farm Avenue, and has suffered from spates of vandalism during that time.

Residents in neighbouring streets say there has been an increasingly large amount of litter being left at the area in recent weeks and they described it as an eyesore.

One resident, who wished to remain nameless for fears of having their property damaged, said: “Every morning there is always tonnes of litter over there.

“It’s a complete and utter eyesore. There is stuff strewn all over the place before people come and pick it up.”

The skate park users have rejected claims they are responsible for the litter and have said they are trying to talk to people to stop rubbish being thrown on the ground.

It is believed that youngsters are using the skate park in the evenings as a meeting point.

Jack Bracken-Lobb, 21, who uses the skate park, said: “There’s a problem there and it’s one we are trying to control as users of the skate park.

“There are people who use it as a hang out area and a lot of the litter comes from there.

“We are having words with people and telling them to pick their litter up particularly the smaller ones. We are picking up litter ourselves sometimes.”

Last summer the skate park was vandalised after rocks in the rock wall surrounding the park were torn out and thrown across the ground.
