A speeding motorist was caught drink-driving on his way to McDonald’s with teenage passengers in the car.
David Cox, 23, of Cornwall Road, Felixstowe, was travelling at 56mph in a 30mph zone while being more than one-and-a-half times the drink-drive limit.
Cox pleaded guilty when he appeared before Ipswich magistrates to drink-driving in Walton Avenue, Felixstowe, on February 26.
Representing himself, Cox said he would not have driven if he had realised he was over the limit. He added: “I had a few beers while washing my car during the day with my kids. I went to McDonald’s and didn’t think anything of it.”
Cox’s Peugeot was stopped by police at 6.15pm. A breath test showed he had 58 microgrammes in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35mcgs.
Cox was banned from driving for 16 months and ordered to pay £525 in fines, costs, and a surcharge.
