A DRINK driver who smashed in to a parked car while nearly three times the legal limit has been banned from the road and ordered to pay hundreds of pounds in compensation.

Lyndon Cook, of Larkhill Way in Felixstowe, caused thousands of pounds worth of damage when he hit a car in Ferry Road in November.

He pleaded guilty to drink driving and driving without insurance when he appeared at South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court last week.

Magistrates banned him from the road for 22 months and ordered him to pay compensation of £680.

Police were called to Ferry Road, Felixstowe, on November 17 following reports that a Vauxhall Astra had collided with a parked Audi.

It was claimed the force of the collision moved the parked car on to a driveway, where it hit another vehicle.

Police had to close the road for more than three hours while the scene was cleared and Cook was taken to hospital for treatment.

A blood test after the incident revealed the 31-year-old had 190 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood – the legal limit is 80mg.

In court, Cook was told there would be no reduction course available to him because of the seriousness of the incident.

He was also ordered to pay £50 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
