TWO charities received the best Christmas present – a fundraising boost for their work around the resort.

Felixstowe mayor Mike Deacon’s festive charity concert raised between 800 and 1,000 for the Level Two youth project and FACTs (Felixstowe Area Community Transport Scheme), the two charities he is supporting during his year in office.

The evening was held at St John’s Church, Orwell Road, and was extremely well attended with entertainment being provided by the Martlesham Brass Band, female harmony group Tutti Frutti Voices, and Felixstowe Academy’s Deben Strings ensemble.

Stephen Wyatt compered the evening in place of Roy Yates, business manager and company secretary for Level Two, who died suddenly at the beginning of the month.

The concert began with a minute’s silence in memory of Mr Yates, who had put a lot of work and effort into the organising the event.

? Mr Deacon’s next charity events are the Mayor’s Curry Night at the Bombay Nite restaurant, Walton High Street, Felixstowe, on Monday, February 11, and then the Mayor’s Charity Ball at the Orwell Hotel, Hamilton Road, Felixstowe, on Friday, April 19.

Further information on tickets for both events is available from Lorna Monsen at Felixstowe Town Hall on 01394 282086.
