FELIXSTOWE: Animal charity bosses were today starting a new search for a site for a rescue centre – and urging the public to help.

Despite pulling out of the the purchase of The Hollies at Foxhall after last-minute complications, the Blue Cross said it was committed to staying in the area and determined to open a new state-of-the-art adoption centre.

It is now instructing land agents to begin the hunt all over again, but would like supporters to help identify potential suitable sites, and would also like to hear from property and land owners.

Andrew Gillon, manager of the animal adoption centre at Felixstowe, said the site would need to be around two acres in size, with buildings suitable for conversion or development potential.

“We also need good road access, and, if possible, to be a reasonable distance from any housing,” he said.

The charity had not actively been looking for the past two years and it was possible new sites would be available.

The charity had been about to buy the former BT and civil service sports and social club The Hollies to transform into a new rescue centre able to deal with far more sick and homeless animals than at Felixstowe, where the facilities are outdated. Cost of upgrading water and electricity put paid to the project.
